Hazel I. Watkins Davie, 90, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.
She was born Jan. 1, 1914, in Oriole, Mo., daughter of Clarence L. and Maude McLain Watkins. She and Paul A. McLaird were married April 28, 1933. He died Feb. 10, 1965. On June 8, 1968, Hazel married Robert Lee Davie. He died in January 1973.
Hazel attended the former Indian Creek Elementary School and the former Fruitland High School, and graduated from Jackson High School in 1932.
She and her husband, Paul, owned and operated the former General Store at Oriole for many years. After moving to Cape Girardeau, they owned and operated the former Paul's Superette on Bloomfield Road. Hazel also worked at Rust and Martin on Broadway and Lowell's Jewelry, both in Cape Girardeau.
She was a member of Maple United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.
She will be dearly missed by a son, Michael David McLaird of Juno Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Melissa McLaird of Juno Beach, Ricky McLaird and wife Donna of Raleigh, N.C., Debbie McLaird of Hope Mills, N.C., Melinda Hill and husband Eddie of Hope Mills; and four great-grandchildren, Jessica, Mitchell, Brooke and Catlin, all of Hope Mills.
She was preceded in death by a son, Paul Richard McLaird, on July 20, 2004.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Cooper officiating.
Burial will follow at McLain Chapel Cemetery near Indian Creek.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the McLain Chapel Cemetery Fund.
