Harvey H. Smothers, 96, of Bloomfield, Mo., died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born Sept. 21, 1907, near Swinton, Mo., son of Orble and Minnie Mann Smothers. He and Zenoba Hobbs were married June 18, 1927.
Smothers was employed by International Shoe Company from 1927 to 1942. He moved to Benton, Mo., in 1939 and then in 1943 to rural Bloomfield, where he was a farmer. Smothers attended the Assembly of God Church in Bell City, Mo., and later attended First General Baptist Church in Bloomfield.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jim Smothers of Montgomery, Texas, and Gary Smothers of Bloomfield; two brothers, Elvis Smothers and John Smothers, both of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Helen Stewart of Bloomfield; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at First General Baptist Church in Bloomfield, with the Rev. Kevin Eskew officiating. Burial will be in George Cemetery, near Bloomfield.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
