Harvey Sanford

Harvey Benjamin Sanford, 86, of Cahokia, Ill., was born March 20, 1924, at Ancell, Mo., and died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Sanford was retired from General Motors-Fisher Body in St. Louis. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Cahokia, and UAW Local 25 of St. Louis. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Margaret Sanford, nee Scherer; a daughter, Margaret Ann Sanford; his parents, William and Nancy Mills Sanford; two brothers, Rufus and James Sanford; and three sisters, Grace Bodenstein, Immogene Hester and Ruby Rudy.

Surviving are his two children, Harvey B. (Candy) Sanford Jr. and Linda K. (Rick Niedringhaus) Sanford, both of Collinsville, Ill.; a brother, William (Maxine) Sanford of Scott City; a sister, Norma Crites of Chaffee, Mo.; two grandchildren, Melissa (Matt) Guetterman and Andrew Sanford; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Mason Guetterman; a sister-in-law, Laura Mae Sanford of Scott City; and his dear friend, Paul Guetterman of Collinsville. He was a dear uncle, cousin and friend. A special thanks to the crew at Classic K for the thoughtful and kind manner in which they treated Harvey.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Braun Colonial Funeral Home in Cahokia, and from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. A prayer service will be at 4 p.m. today at Braun Colonial Funeral Home.

The funeral procession will leave at 9:45 a.m. Monday from Braun Colonial Funeral Home to Holy Family Catholic Church, for 10 a.m. Mass with the Revs. Paul Wienhoff and John Patrick Day officiating.

A prayer service will be at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin officiating.

Burial with full military honors will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Scott City.
