Harry Wilson

Harry R. Wilson, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Sept. 4, 1923, in Commerce, Mo., to the late Allen and Rena Smith Wilson. He and Mary Sue Campbell were married June 15, 1976.

Wilson was a graduate of Hillman University in Georgia.

He retired as a postal worker in Chicago and as a security guard at West Park Mall. He was a member of Harmony Lodge 40 F&AM of Missouri, VFW Post 3838 and St. James AME Church, where he was steward pro tem, assistant Sunday school superintendent and a class leader.

Wilson served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 during World War II and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1951 during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged from both.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Harry Wilson Jr. of Florissant, Mo., Harold and Larry Wilson of St. Louis, Tony McCline of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Kathy Williams of Perry, Ga., Alice McCline of Cape Girardeau; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to service time today at St. James AME Church.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at the church. The Rev. Debbie Thornton, pastor, will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.

Williams Funeral Home in Charleston, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
