FRUITLAND -- Harry L. McDowell, 83, of Fruitland died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Aug. 2, 1915, at Fruitland, son of Eli and Effie Noland McDowell. He and June Anderson were married Jan. 30, 1936.
McDowell was a farmer and livestock dealer in the area many years. He owned the Park View Drive-In Theater at Jackson a year, built the Fruitland Livestock Auction Barn in 1970, built the McDowell Service Station at Jackson in 1981 and operated it until 1998.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Harry McDowell Jr. of Cairo, Ill., Richard, Tom and Tim McDowell of Jackson; three daughters, Harriett Puchbauer, Karen Sander and Susan LaPierre of Jackson; a sister, Maxine Tackey of Springfield; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, four sisters, and three grandchildren.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
