CAIRO, Ill. -- Harry L. Layton, 82, of Cairo died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Daystar Care Center.
He was born Oct. 18, 1917, in Mound City, Ill., son of Joe and Olga Johansen Layton. He married Thelma Conn.
Layton was a former vice president of First Bank and Trust Co. in Cairo.
He was a member of Church of the Redeemer Episcopal Church, American Legion, and VFW Post 2649 in Cairo. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans, honorary life member and past secretary of Cairo Elks Lodge 651.
Layton was a veteran of World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart and Silver Star.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Bradford Layton of Town and Country, Mo.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.
Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 5-8 p.m. Sunday. An Elks service will be held at 7:30.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Church of the Redeemer, with the Rev. Arnold Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge, Ill.
