SIKESTON -- Harrison J. Birt, 71, of Sikeston, formerly of Daven, W.V., died Saturday night, Aug. 22, 1992, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 16, 1920, in Logan County, W.V., to the late John E. and Eva Black Birt.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a sergeant in World War II. He was a Baptist.
For 25 years, he worked as a coal miner in West Virginia and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
On Jan. 31, 1942, he married Frieda M. Fleming, in Logan, W.V. She preceded him in death on Nov. 24, 1988.
Survivors include: one son, Larry P. Birt, of Bessermer City, N.C.; one daughter, Janice Brooks of Sikeston; one brother, Clifford Birt of Columbus, Ohio; five sisters, Hazel Briles, Clara Roy and Doris Collins, all of Columbus, Ohio, Bessie Winters of Branchland, W.V., and Mary Browning of Robinette, W.V.; and five grandchildren.
One son, one daughter, three brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
The body was moved from Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston to James Funeral Home in Logan, W.V., where friends may call from 6-9 p.m. today. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the James Funeral Home chapel with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery at Godby, W.V.
