GRASSY, Mo. -- Harold Edward Thornhill, 77, of Grassy died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at his home.
He was born April 13, 1923, at Grubville, Mo., the son of Freemont and Emaline Leonard Thornhill. He married Nadean Vaughn on Sept. 12, 1953. She survives.
He was a member and Sunday school superintendent of the New Trace Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
He was a WWII veteran, serving as a sergeant in the Air Force. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 5900 in Marble Hill, Mo. He was a retried cement finisher for the Penzel Construction Co.
He also is survived by his stepmother, Martha Thornhill of Love Park, Ill.; a son, Ronald Gaillard of Ashland, Miss.; two daughters, Darlene Thornhill-Fogarty of Tubac, Ariz., and Sandra Thornhill-Alvarez of Belleville, Ill.; four sisters, Alberta Blatz of St. Louis, Floyd Bourbon of Phoenix, Ariz., Betty McMullen of Arnold, Mo., and Ruth Ann Atkins of St. Louis; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Shoemaker officiating.
Burial with full military rites by VFW Post 5900 and the Missouri Honors Team will follow at the Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill.
