OLIVE BRANCH, Ill. -- Harold Thompson, 77, of Olive Branch died Friday, June 21, 2013, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 7, 1935, in Thebes, Ill., son of John Logan and Milbrey Dyer Thompson. He and LaVerne Wilson were married May 29, 1954.

Harold was employed 47 years at Columbia Quarry, and, after retiring in 1999, moved to Olive Branch. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Cahokia, Ill. He served on the school board in Dupo, Ill., and served as tax assessor of Sugarloaf Township. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, mowing grass for his neighbors and the community, and taking his granddaughters shopping. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a friend to all he met.

He is survived by his wife, LaVerne of Olive Branch; three sons, Allen (Diane) Thompson of Olive Branch, Brian (Jeannie) Thompson of Columbia, Ill., and Rodney (Beth) Thompson of Okawville, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Tiffany, Whitney, Ashley, Josh, Brooke, Mason, Morgan, Brad and Chad; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Christe Thompson; a grandson, Dustin Thompson; five sisters, Nellie Bishop, Bonnie Farris, Maisie Foster, Genevieve Willis and Pearl Taylor; and a brother, Robert Thompson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Mark Kirk and Micah Spencer officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes, Ill.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Zion Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
