Harold Meyer

Harold Elwood "Butch" Meyer, 72, of Springville, Tenn., died in an automobile accident Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, near Poplar Bluff, Mo. His wife, Peggy Lee Fornkohl Meyer, also died.

He was born Nov. 4, 1933, in Jackson, son of Charles and Erna Lowes Meyer Brown. He and Peggy Fornkohl were married June 1, 1957, at Grace United Methodist Church.

Butch grew up in the Jackson area, attended Southeast Missouri State University, and later received a degree from the University of Houston.

He served in the U.S. Navy two years and then served in the U.S. Air Force 22 years, retiring to the Cape Girardeau-Jackson area.

Butch taught refrigeration/air conditioning at Cape Girardeau Vocational School until moving to Houston, Texas, in 1982. He then worked as an instructor at Flight Safety International. In 2003 he and Peggy retired to Springville. He was an avid golfer and he and Peggy enjoyed camping.

Survivors include a daughter, Tabitha Lee Meyer Williams, a grandson, Dustin Williams, both of Katy, Texas; two sisters, Dorothy Meyer Ficken of St. Louis, Mary Crites of Jackson; and a former son-in-law, Danny Williams of Houston.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, two brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today, and at Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris, Tenn., from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Ridgeway Funeral Home, with the Rev. Glen Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery in Springville with full military honors.
