Harold Gene Harris, 78, of Jackson, formerly of Afton, Michigan, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023, at his home.

He was born Jan. 12, 1945, in Wolverine, Michigan, to Bruce and Katheryn Warren Harris. He and Sharon A. Sloat were married June 12, 1965, in Cheboygan, Michigan. They had been married 57 years when Sharon passed away June 20, 2022.

Harold was a graduate of Inland Lakes High School in Indian River, Michigan. While in high school, he played basketball and football and starred in track, setting the school record in the pole vault, which stood for 20 years.

Harold began his career at General Motors in Goodrich, Michigan, and later went to work for Procter & Gamble, moving to Jackson with his family in 1990.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He helped coach his son and grandson in youth wrestling and football. He instilled in his children an appreciation of the outdoors and shared the love of horses, which he and Sharon enjoyed together.

Survivors include three daughters, Palmi (Kevin) Henry and Laura (Paul) Pollard of Jackson and Tamara (Corey) Ward of Topinabee, Michigan; a son, Darren Harris of Franklin, Tennessee; nine grandchildren, Rose, Ethan, Aaron, Brittney, Bailey, Ashlyn, Savanna, Caroline and Nash; three brothers, Roger (Ann) Harris, Bill Harris and Ray (Barbara) Harris; two sisters, Margaret Riker and Helen (Bob) Zimmerman; and a sister-in-law, Joyce (the late Larry) Harris.

In addition to his wife, Sharon, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry Harris; and a brother-in-law, Larry Riker.

A memorial visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at the funeral home.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association.
