Harold Gray

Harold C. "Hal" Gray, 83, formerly of Jackson, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 9, 1933, in Florissant, Missouri, son of John E. and Eunice H. Barteau Gray. He and Shirley M. Pataky were married Feb. 25, 1956. She passed away Aug. 20, 2014.

Harold was a former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farmington, Missouri, and Sacred Heart Parish in Florissant. He and his wife owned and operated Gray Heating and Air Conditioning for 30 years. Harold served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957. In April of 1995, he was inducted into the Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. Harold was a member of the Elks, American Legion, Eagles and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing music, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Loving survivors include four children, John (Yuliya) Gray of Mundelein, Illinois, Glenn (Brenda) Gray of Jackson, Mary (Steve) Walter of Moscow Mills, Missouri, and Michelle (Tim) Sigmund of Colby, Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Norman (Marti) Pataky; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years; a brother, Jack Gray; and a sister, Marilyn Burke.

A memorial visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Veterans Home, with Father Bobby Manso officiating. Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
