Harold Donn Ellis, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, March 15, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Nov. 15, 1924, in Cape Girardeau, son of Oren O. and Mae Simmons Ellis Sr. He and June L. Vogelsang were married Nov. 15, 1947, in Cape Girardeau.
Harold served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a bookkeeper at Harris Truck and Trailer 35 years, where he had previously worked as a diesel mechanic. Harold was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Gideons International, VFW Post 3838, American Legion Post 63 and Cape Girardeau Senior Citizens.
Survivors include a son, Harold "Bub" Ellis Jr. of Cape Girardeau; four daughters, Ann Ellis of Valrico, Fla., Brenda Bender of Cape Girardeau, Vicki Hensley of Farmington, Mo., Pam Kelly of Ballwin, Mo.; three brothers, Elwood Ellis of Cape Girardeau, Oren Ellis Jr. of Perryville, Mo., the Rev. Gene Ellis of Casey, Ill.; three sisters, Shirlene Riley and Shirley Ellis of Cape Girardeau, Judy Davis of Metropolis, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two granddaughters.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Lewis Todd officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.
Memorial contributions may be given to Multiple Sclerosis Society, American Cancer Society, Gideons International or charity of choice.
