MOUNDS, Ill. -- Harold D. Basham, 85, of Mounds passed away Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Karnak, Ill., son of Dave and Eva Basham.
Harold was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mounds and Caledonia Masonic Lodge 47 AF/AM of Olive Branch, Ill.; and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
He was a retired truck driver from Anna State Hospital. He served as a Pulaski County chief deputy from 1958 to 1970.
Harold was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include two sons, Stan Basham of Mounds and Joe David (Paula) Basham of Metropolis, Ill.; a daughter, Linda Jones of Mounds; four grandchildren, Donavan (Cherie) Wright, Sarah (Brandon) Burd, Joe D. Basham II and Emily Basham; five great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren, Jerod, Jason, and Jordan "Nick" Holland, Ben Mescher and Christian Childress; a great-stepgrandson, Jon Holland; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Rosalie McDonough Basham on Sept. 20, 2010.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, Ill. Masonic rites will be conducted by Caledonia Lodge and military honors will follow by Illinois National Guard and area veterans.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Buddy Walls officiating. Interment will be in Cypress Masonic Cemetery in Cypress, Ill.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association or the Heart Association in memory of Harold Basham.
