Harley Johnson

Harley Edward "Joe" Johnson, 82, passed away Nov. 3, 2006, at his home in Marble Hill.

He was born April 20, 1924, in Glen Allen, the son of James Franklin and Minnie Bessie Thompson Johnson. He and Lena Maxine Myrick were married on Nov. 7, 1942. She died May 17, 1994. He and Joyce Crites Davis were married on June 2, 1995, and she survives.

Joe worked in automobile sales and service all his life. He was employed at the Brennecke Chevrolet in Jackson, at Higgins Chevrolet in Lutesville, Mo., at Wallis and Allgood Chevrolet in Marble Hill, and then became co-owner of J.W. Chevrolet in Marble Hill. Before retiring due to health reasons, he owned Johnson Auto Sales and wrecker service in Marble Hill.

He was a Veteran of World War II and a former American Legion member.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Johnson of Marble Hill; two daughters, JoAnn (Duane) Locher of Webster Groves, Mo. and Nancy (Dan) Elliott of Marble Hill; one step-daughter, Theresa (Brian) Elfrink of Marble Hill and two step-grandsons, Travis Elfrink and Chris Elliott.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, five sisters and one step-grandson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield at the cemetery chapel. Rev. Gene Robbins will officiate with participation by a Military Honors team. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Southeast Missouri Hospice.
