SIKESTON, Mo. -- Harland Gilbert Maxwell, 91, of Sikeston died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at his home.
He was born April 29, 1914, in Bertrand, Mo., son of Walter and Nettie Holland Maxwell. He and Gladys Stallings were married April 12, 1941. She died Nov. 26, 2000. He and Clara Presson were married July 12, 2003.
Maxwell was a farmer in the Dogwood area, and later was a real estate developer and investor. He was a member of First Christian Church in Sikeston. He was an honorary colonel on the staff of Mississippi governor Cliff Finch.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Myrna Johnson of Sikeston; a son, Jerry Maxwell of East Prairie, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Janelda Fish of Dewitt, Mich.; two sisters, Edna Heath and Blanche Blackman of East Prairie; his twin brother, Leland Maxwell of Sikeston; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Leland Butler officiating.
