Hansel Arnac

MCCLURE, Ill. ­— Hansel R. "Red" Arnac, 78, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday, April 4, 2008, at his daughter's home in McClure, Ill., after losing his battle with cancer.

Arnac was born Dec. 29, 1929, in Linton, Ind., son of Gabriel J. and Edna L. Anderson Arnac.

He and Velma Marie Zanetell were married Oct. 4, 1952, at Pueblo, Colo. She preceded him in death Dec. 9, 2003.

Arnac was a longtime resident of Poplar Bluff. He was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean conflict. After leaving the army with an honorable discharge in 1956, he then was employed with Holiday Inns of America as an innkeeper in several states until 1971. He then became co-owner of Log "N" Stone Restaurant and Lounge with his wife until retirement in 1983. Arnac was a member of VFW Post No. 6477 in Poplar Bluff for over 20 years. He was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include four daughters, Wanda Moore, Sandra Doyle, Lou Hays, all of Cape Girardeau, Karen Lugo of McClure; three sons, Stan Arnac of Cape Girardeau, Gary and Dwayne Arnac of Poplar Bluff; three sisters, Naomi Wasnidge of Jasonville, Ind., Sue Ledbetter, Sharon Pirtle, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Jim Arnac of St. Charles, Mo.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Beatrice Ford of Westville, Ind., on May 6, 2001.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. Friends may also call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Funeral Home on Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau, with funeral services following at 1 p.m. at Ford and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Cooper officiating.

Arnac will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with his beloved wife. Full military honors will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society.
