H. Weldon Macke, 81, of Gordonville died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Southeast Hospital.
He was born Aug. 16, 1930, at Gordonville to Albert and Dorothy Probst Macke. Weldon grew up in Gordonville and operated the family business, Macke's Store and Macke Farm Equipment Co. He and Bonnie Bierschwal were married July 11, 1954, at Cape Girardeau.
Mr. Macke was the county auditor for Cape Girardeau County from 1968 to 2002.
He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Gordonville, where he also taught Sunday school for more than 50 years. He also served the Methodist Church on local, district, conference, jurisdictional conference and general conference committees. He was a retired board member at Southeast Hospital and Old McKendree Methodist Church. He was active with the Mended Hearts program at Southeast Hospital. He served on the Southeast Missouri University Foundation Board since its founding. He was a current member of the Agriculture Committee for the School of Agriculture. Weldon was on the Crime Lab Advisory Board for Southeast Missouri. He was past president and charter member of both the Missouri Association of Counties and of the County Auditors' Association. He served on the Senior Citizen's Mill Tax Board. He was the current chairman of the Southeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and member of the Jackson Rotary Club.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Macke of Gordonville; three daughters, Pamela (Stanley) Johnson of Gordonville, Karen (Kevin) Yarbro of Cape Girardeau and Barbie (Jeff) Stroder of Jackson; two sisters, Dorothy Ramsey and Alberta Neil Dougan of Jackson; a nephew, Thomas (Christine) Wilson of St. Louis; five grandchildren, Rachel (Garrett) Thorne, Beth (Brad) Biri, Erica (Travis) Keller, Jack Johnson and Matthew Stroder; and four great-grandchildren, Cameron Thorne, Collin Thorne, Peyton Keller and Isabella Biri.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Zion United Methodist Church in Gordonville, with the Rev. Joel Kidwell officiating with assistance by the Rev. Ann Mowery. Viewing will also be available starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Burial will be at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.
