PUXICO -- H. Vernon Johns, 77, of Puxico died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Puxico Nursing Center. He was born June 28, 1922, son of Harry Van and Vallie Revelle Johns. He and Jessamine "Tiny" Tucker were married Feb. 23, 1944. Johns was a retired farmer and cattle rancher. ...

PUXICO -- H. Vernon Johns, 77, of Puxico died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Puxico Nursing Center.

He was born June 28, 1922, son of Harry Van and Vallie Revelle Johns. He and Jessamine "Tiny" Tucker were married Feb. 23, 1944.

Johns was a retired farmer and cattle rancher. He served 12 years on the Puxico R-VIII school board, and was treasurer several of those years. He was a member of VFW Post 7822. Johns served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Bonnie Taylor and Patti McLean of Puxico, Darlene Loos of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Larry Jones of Jackson and Kevin Johns of Dudley.

Also surviving are two sisters, Lucy Sadler of Hartford, Ill., Vivian Hodge of Puxico; three brothers, Willard Johns of Bloomfield, Calvin Johns of Bethalto, Ill., Bobby Johns of Jerseyville, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a son and four brothers.

Friends may call at Morgan-Sifford Funeral Home after 6 p.m. today. A VFW memorial service will be held at 6:30.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Ray Placher, Ken Mash and Johnny Buttry will officiate. Burial will be in Brown Church Cemetery near Puxico.
