SIKESTON -- H. Garwood Sharp Jr., 80, of Sikeston, died Thursday, July 14, 1994, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 25, 1914, in New Madrid, son of Harry G. and Madge Mitchell Sharp Sr. He and Ruth Inez Felker were married April 21, 1935, in Sikeston.
Sharp was a 1931 graduate of New Madrid High School. He attended Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, Ala., and the University of Missouri-Columbia.
He had lived in Sikeston since 1931. He had worked at the Bank of Sikeston and had been an agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. From 1944-69 he was owner and auto dealer with Mitchell-Sharp Chevrolet Co. here. He had also been business manager for KMPL Radio several years.
Sharp was a member of First United Methodist Church, and served as trustee and chairman of the administrative board. He had been involved with Boy Scouts and Sikeston Community Concert Association.
He was a member of Sikeston Jaycees, 32nd Degree Mason with Sikeston Lodge, member of Scottish Rite and Moolah Shrine Temple in St. Louis. Sharp served on the board of Municipal Utilities from 1959-81, and was chairman of the labor-management mediator board in 1982.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Harry Sharp III of Sikeston; a brother, C. LaValle Sharp of Sikeston; a grandson, and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles E. Buck officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
