GROVER M. MAYS SR.

ANNA, Ill. -- Grover M. Mays Sr., 79, of Anna, died Monday, June 6, 1994, at Union County Hospital.

He was born June 6, 1915, in Union County, son of John Henry and Virginia Clark Mays. He and Ada Farris were married Dec. 15, 1937, in Paducah, Ky.

Mays was an ironworker. He was a member of Ironworkers Local 782 and past president of Ironworkers Local 595, member of Anna Heights Baptist Church, Anna Masonic Lodge 520 AF&AM, member and past patron of Anna Chapter Order of Eastern Star, and member of Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Southern Illinois.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Beverlay Mays of Anna; four sons, Sherman, Allen, Grover and Ronnie Mays of Anna; two sisters, Amy Carhart of Jonesboro, Kay Howard of California; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, daughter, sister, six brothers and two granddaughters.

Friends may call at Lutz & Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna after 5 p.m. Wednesday. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Scott Harner officiating. Burial will be in Anna Cemetery.
