Gregory Lee Crites, 65, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at his home.

He was born April 15, 1948, in Sturdivant, Mo., the son of Ernest Burett and Hazel Leota Cooper Crites.

Greg and Elizabeth Susan Toll were united in marriage Oct. 22, 1988, in Cape Girardeau, and she survives of the home.

Greg was a 1966 graduate of Puxico High School. He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1970 with a bachelor of science degree in education; in 1972, he earned a master of counseling and in 1980 a specialist in education, both from Southeast.

He began his educational career at Advance, Mo., in 1970. Greg later worked with schools in Jackson, Malden, Mo., Portageville, Mo., Oak Ridge and Bell City, Mo., before retiring as superintendent of Marquand Schools in 2004.

He was known for his carvings and his vast knowledge of vintage movies, and was a golf enthusiast.

Also survivoring are two sons, Jason (Shannon) Crites of Portageville, Mo., and John (Kelly) Yates of Leawood, Kan.; a daughter, Leslie (Keith) Juedemann of Boonsboro, Md.; and grandchildren Jarrah and Jaimie Crites and Samantha, Gabe and Lucy Juedemann.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Crites.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Dale Wiseman officiating. Burial will be in Rock Point Cemetery.
