JACKSON -- Funeral service for Grady Underwood of French Village will be held at 11 a.m. today at Irwin Funeral Chapel on Maryville Road in Granite City, Ill. The Rev. David Fielding will officiate, with burial in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Underwood, 79, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 1997, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Feb. 25, 1917, in Piggott, Ark., son of Luther and Lula Williamson Underwood. He and Janet LaVerne Hillemann were married April 5, 1940. She died Oct. 26, 1993.
Underwood moved to French Village 20 years ago from Granite City. He was owner of Nameoki Standard Service, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff and Roger Underwood of Glen Carbon, Ill.; two sisters, Cornetta Welter of Columbia, Rachel Tiffany of Arnold; a brother, Pete Underwood of Jackson; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
