MOUNDS, Ill. -- Gordon O. VonNida, 78, of Mounds died Thursday, April 29, 1999, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Ky.

He was born June 26, 1920, at Villa Ridge, son of George Oliver and Blanche Atherton VonNida. He and Irma L. Wilson were married Aug. 23, 1941, at Charleston, Mo.

VonNida was an agent more than 30 years with Washington National and Commonwealth Insurance Companies in Cairo, retiring in 1978.

He was a member of Disabled Veterans in Jackson County, American Legion Post 179 in Villa Ridge, and lifetime member of VFW Post 2649 in Cairo.

VonNida served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Larry VonNida of Anna; two daughters, Lynda Winfrey of Mayfield, Ky., Lynne Hanle of Karnak; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge after 5 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Larry Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge, with military rites by the VFW Posts in Mounds and Cairo, and American Legion Post in Villa Ridge.
