Gordon J. Schafer, 28, of Cape Girardeau passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born June 19, 1989, in Cape Girardeau to Robert "Bob" and Shirlene Barks Schafer.
He attended Mineral Area College and earned an Associate of Applied Science in Automotive Technology. The past five years he worked full time for Drury Petroleum and Drury Land Development, both in Cape Girardeau.
He previously attended Cape Bible Chapel in Cape Girardeau and was active in their basketball league. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and buying, refurbishing and reselling old cars and boats.
Loving survivors include his parents, Bob and Shirlene Schafer of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Bradley (Amanda) Schafer, and their sons, Ethan and Wyatt of Millersville.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jason Schafer, on Sept. 20, 2004; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Jim Matthews and Mike Parry officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Cape County Cowboy Church, Fruitland Community Church or the donor's choice of church or charity.
