WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. -- Golda E. Barnes, 84, of West Frankfort died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.
She was born Aug. 31, 1915, in West Frankfort, daughter of William Clabe and Etta Ingram Thomas. She married Virgil Barnes Nov. 21, 1932, in Marion. He died Aug. 14, 1980. She later married Garland Hughes, who died in 1993.
Barnes was a member of Caldwell Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Basil Barnes of Cape Girardeau, Jerry Barnes of Evansville, Ind.; three daughters, Ruth Brown of Cape Girardeau, Mary Ann Barnes and Connie Rowe of West Frankfort; a brother, Hosea Thomas of West Frankfort; two sisters, Ann Melvin of West Frankfort, Hazel Gunter of Deming, N.M.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, and seven brothers and sisters.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at Caldwell Baptist Church in West Frankfort.
Funeral will be at noon Thursday at Caldwell Baptist Church. Burial will be in Tower Heights Cemetery.
