ANNA, Ill. -- Gloria Schaefer, 79, of Anna passed away Sunday, July 12, 2009, at her home. She was born Aug. 3, 1929, in Wolf Lake, Ill., daughter of Manuel H. and Norma Lindsey Kimmel. She and Cyril Schaefer were married Jan. 20, 1951, in Anna. He preceded her in death Dec. 25, 2002...

ANNA, Ill. -- Gloria Schaefer, 79, of Anna passed away Sunday, July 12, 2009, at her home.

She was born Aug. 3, 1929, in Wolf Lake, Ill., daughter of Manuel H. and Norma Lindsey Kimmel. She and Cyril Schaefer were married Jan. 20, 1951, in Anna. He preceded her in death Dec. 25, 2002.

Gloria is survived by twin sons, Rick (Marcia) Schaefer of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., and Randy (Diana) Schaefer of Jonesboro, Ill.; three grandsons, Kyle Schaefer of Ste. Genevieve, John and Ryan Schaefer of Jonesboro; a granddaughter, Sarah Schaefer of Jonesboro; two sisters, Carrie Hill of Anna, and Alma (Don) Linson of Jonesboro.

Also three brothers-in-law, Gene (Barbara) Schaefer of Anna, Carrol (Aileen) Schaefer of Cape Girardeau, Jim (Wilma) Schaefer of Jonesboro; a sister-in-law, Ellen (Odean) Sergeant of Lebo, Kan.; two special friends, Ernest Rosenthal of Marion, Ill., Ann Middleton of Anna; a very special niece, Joyce Hill Plott of Anna; many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Merl and Paul Kimmel; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Lena Schaefer.

Gloria was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Wolf Lake many years. She moved to Jonesboro in 1963 and became a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. She taught Sunday school at both churches. In 1987 Gloria moved to Anna and became a member of Anna Heights Baptist Church, which she attended weekly until her health no longer allowed her to be an active member.

She was a sales clerk in Anna at Boston's Women's Clothing Store and Rechter Brothers for 10 years. She then became a beauty operator in 1958 and owned and operated her own beauty shop 46 years.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joe Aldridge officiating. Interment will be in Anna City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
