Glenn Jefferson Hutson, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, June 18, 1994, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 6, 1911, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Nathaniel Jefferson and Amanda Catherine Smith Hutson. On Aug. 22, 1934, he married Helen Farrar, who survives of Cape Girardeau.
He was a long-time businessman in the retail furniture business in Cape Girardeau, founding Hutson Bros. Furniture with his brother in 1945. He also operated Western Auto store on Main Street for 15 years. In 1976, he started Girardeau Distributors, which is now operated as Hutson Enterprises.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, where he was a past deacon.He also was a member of the Keystone Sunday School class. He also was a founding member of the Main Street Levee District. Other memberships include the Chamber of Commerce; St. Mark's Masonic Lodge; director for more than 20 years and past treasurer emeritus of the Southeast Hospital Board and Foundation Board; Colonial Savings and Loan Association Board of Directors for more than 20 years; Retail Merchants Association, and an initial investor in the Downtown Investment Group in Cape Girardeau.
Other survivors include two sons, Charles Hutson and James Hutson, both of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Helen Hammond of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Lynn Hutson of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Leta Ann Ferguson of Cape Girardeau; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by three sisters.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Dr. John Owen and Dr. Paul Jarrett will officiate, and burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
