Glenn William Abernathy, 90, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. He was born Sept. 14, 1914, at Oriole, son of Robert and Lela Singleton Abernathy. Glenn William Abernathy, 90, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Sept. 14, 1914, at Oriole, son of Robert and Lela Singleton Abernathy. He and Toria Strong were married March 9, 1946, in Piggott, Ark. She preceded him in death Nov. 9, 2004.

Glenn was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army from October 1942 to November 1945.

He retired after 30 years with Marquette Cement.

Glenn was a great father. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and cutting wood. He was a member of Cape First Church, VFW Post 3838, former member of AFL-CIO Union. He was educated at Indian Creek School.

Survivors include three sons, Wayne Abernathy, Edgar Abernathy and Clyde Abernathy, all of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Elmer Abernathy of Sedgewickville, Mo., Norman "Buck" Abernathy of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Grace Craft of Pocahontas, Betty Abernathy and Alma Abernathy of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and five great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and four brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Rev. Charles Lance will officiate. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
