Glen Stephen Kinder II died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at his home. A resident of Oak Ridge, he was born on Nov. 8, 1922, in the same family home in Cape Girardeau County, which has been in the family for seven generations. He was the son of Elmer Detrich and Anice Dove Goodson Kinder.
Mr. Kinder was a farmer and served in the Merchant Marines from 1943 to 1947.
He married Verla B. Cobble on June 13, 1947, and she survives.
He was a 50 year member of the Excelsior Lodge 441 A.F.& A.M. and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star Chapter 310. He was a member of the Cape County Farm Bureau, the Southeast Missouri/Southern Illlinois Polled Hereford Association. He was a 4-H Beef Leader for the Daisy 4-H Club. He had been active in the Cape County Democratic Party.
Mr. Kinder is survived by his wife, Verla Kinder of Oak Ridge; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. James E. and Denva Kinder of Lincoln, Neb., Glen Stephen III and Sue Kinder of McLeansboro, Ill. And Kirk and Tammy Kinder of Oak Ridge; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty Sue and Steven Radcliff of Chillicothe, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, James C., Robert and Tora Kinder of Lincoln, Neb., Glen Stephen IV and John of McLeansboro, Ill., Kimberly, Katie, Kerry and Benjamin Radcliff of Chillicothe, Mo., Chad, Cody and Colton Kinder of Oak Ridge. He was preceded in death by his brother, James.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:00 pm.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at the chapel, the Rev. Lloyd Bollinger officiating. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery.
The family requests donations be made to Southeast Missouri Hospice.
