Gladys I. Hoffman 92, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Jackson passed away Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born June 9, 1928, in New Wells to Hugo E. and Marie A. Boren Scholl. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells. She and Melvin E. Hoffman were married Dec. 7, 1947. They had been married 68 years, when Melvin passed away April 23, 2016.
Gladys was employed many years at Kasten Masonry Sales.
Gladys and Melvin enjoyed traveling. They were long time members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, where Gladys enjoyed quilting with the Ladies Auxiliary. She and her daughter, Diane, bowled in leagues at the Jackson Lanes.
Loving survivors include four children, David (Connie) Hoffman of St. Louis; Kerry (Linda) Hoffman of Columbia, Missouri; Diane (the late Orval) Thorne of Jackson; and Bruce Hoffman of Nashville, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillian (the late Ray) Schreiner of Oak Ridge; a brother-in-law, Kenneth (the late Evelyn) Weinhold of St. Louis; a dear friend and former sister-in-law, Marlene Scholl of Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two siblings, Ray Scholl and Evelyn Weinhold.
Arrangements are private, Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Gladys will be laid to rest next to Melvin at Russell Heights Cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church Radio Broadcast or the Alzheimer's Association.
