CAIRO, Ill. -- Gladys Flewellen, 82, of Cairo, died Thursday, May 28, 1992, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo., after a brief illness.
She was born Jan. 1, 1910, in Sandusky, daughter of William C. and Ibber B. Randall. She married Willie Flewellen in 1943.
Flewellen received a bachelor of science degree at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. She was a teacher in Alexander County and Cairo Public Schools 40 years, retiring in 1975.
She was a member of Ward Chapel AME Church, its choir, Altar Guild, Violet Washing Missionary Society, and Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority more than 25 years.
Survivors include her husband; three sisters, Helen Morrison, Juanita Young and Ernestine Rhinehardt of New York, N.Y., and a brother, Ralph Randall of Los Angeles, Calif.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ward Church. Lay reader Ronnie Woods will officiate, with burial in National Cemetery at Mound City.
