Gladys Bollinger, 90, of Jackson died Friday, July 13, 2007, at Monticello House, where she had lived the past two years.
She was born July 9, 1917, in Bollinger County, Mo., daughter of the late Henry and Sarah Hahs Barks. She attended the former Clippard and Fulbright Elementary Schools in Oak Ridge. She and Floyd T. Bollinger were married May 20, 1939. He passed away September 10, 1988.
Gladys was proud to have worked 25 years at the former International Shoe Company in Jackson. She retired in January 1970.
Gladys was baptized at the former Gravel Hill Baptist Church south of Oak Ridge. She was a member of the former Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson for over 40 years. In 1996 she transferred her membership to Lighthouse Baptist Church in Cape Gir­ar­deau. Most recently, she was an active member of First General Baptist Church in Jackson and its Joy Group.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Jackson for 39 years.
"Aunt Gladys" was never a mother, but a most precious God-given "Aunt Gladys" to all who knew and loved her. She enjoyed her nieces and nephews and the feelings were mutual.
Loving survivors include three sisters, Freda Martin, Effie Riehn and Hazel Henson, all of Jackson; and many caring nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, the Rev. Loy L. Barks; an infant brother and infant sister.
Friends may call from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mack Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
