Gladys G. Aufdenberg, 93, of Burfordville passed away, Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born April 9, 1927, in Gordonville to Alvin and Elda Bodenstein Fluegge. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville. She and Marvin Aufdenberg were married Dec. 14, 1969. At that time, she adopted Marvin's three children. They had been married 48 years when Marvin passed away May 23, 2018.
Gladys was a devoted farm wife and mother, spending much of her time raising the children, helping on the farm and gardening.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit and a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. For many years, she was a member of the Altar Guild, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include her two sons, Dennis (Liz) Aufdenberg and Bradley (Teresa) Aufdenberg of Burfordville; a daughter, Diane Birk of Jackson; five grandchildren, James (Millie), Luke (Amanda) Aufdenberg, Denise (Tony) Essner, Eric Birk and Heather (Brad) Gaines; three stepgrandchildren, Brent (Yexi) Robinett, Christian (Anastasia) Kinsey and Joseph Kinsey; 10 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Hunter, Blake and Bailey Aufdenberg, Drew, Kinsey and Ty Essner, Mason, Wyatt and Emmett Gaines; a great-stepgranddaughter, Sariyah; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Marvin (Maxine) Fluegge and the Rev. Wilton (Vicky) Fluegge.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. Face masks are encouraged and appreciated.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Mark Boettcher officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson. Later on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, a video of Gladys' service will be posted to the Facebook page of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jackson-Tilsit MO at www.facebook.com/ImmanuelLC1.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may take the form of contributions to Immanuel Lutheran Church General Fund or the charity of your choice.
