NEW HAMBURG, Mo. -- Gilbert T. Menz, 81, of New Hamburg died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 22, 1930, in New Hamburg, son of Theon H. and Bertha K. Hahn Menz. Gilbert married Mary Arnzen June 29, 1957. She preceded him in death Sept. 14, 2004.
Gilbert was a self-employed farmer, a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, a member of St. Joseph Sodality, and VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau.
He was a corporal in the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Korean conflict.
Survivors include a brother, Alfred (Helen) Menz of Kelso, Mo.; three sisters-in-law, Joella Arnzen of Kelso, Patricia Arnzen of Fruitland, Dorothy Glaus of Chaffee, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Marc Troxclair of Broussard, La.; and 22 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. Parish prayers will be at 7.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Lawrence Church, with the Rev. Michael Casteel as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, with full military rites by Missouri Honors Team.
