CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Gilbert Woodrow Mabrey, 92, of Chaffee, formerly of Allenville, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born June 17, 1921, in Cape Girardeau, to George and Hazel Snider Mabrey. He and Ruby A. Eakins were married Jan. 8, 1940. She preceded him in death March 20, 2006...

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Gilbert Woodrow Mabrey, 92, of Chaffee, formerly of Allenville, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 17, 1921, in Cape Girardeau, to George and Hazel Snider Mabrey. He and Ruby A. Eakins were married Jan. 8, 1940. She preceded him in death March 20, 2006.

Gilbert served in the United States Army during World War II. He served in six major campaigns in the South Pacific and was highly decorated in those campaigns.

He was a member of Whitewater Masonic Lodge, Chaffee VFW Post 3127 and Allenville Baptist Church. He was owner and operator of Mabrey Barber Shop in Advance, Missouri.

Survivors include a son, William E. (Betty) Mabrey of Scott City; a daughter, Donna F. (Ray) Fisher of Chaffee; a sister, Marjorie Brown of Crump; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jane Buchheit-Watson, and a brother, Gene Short.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Friday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee, with full military honors presented by Missouri Honor Guard.
