Gilbert John Clements, 82, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, at his home.

He was born Oct. 12, 1935, in Hilderbrand, Missouri, son of William J. and Lena L. Ruch Clements. He and Josefa Rodriguez were married Aug. 25, 1962, in Cambridge, England. She passed away July 29, 2006.

Gilbert attended Hilderbrand Grammar School and St. Maurus Catholic Grade School in Biehle, Missouri. He attained an associate degree in finance from the University of Maryland and a bachelor degree in business management from Southeast Missouri State University.

He was drafted May 4, 1954, and honorably served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, spending one year in Korea. He then joined the U.S. Air Force and retired after 21 years May 1, 1975, in Washington, D.C. After his military career, he worked at Southeast Missouri State University, retiring in 1994.

Gilbert was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson. He was a member of the Bishop Timon Knights of Columbus Council No. 6405 in Jackson for many years and was an Assembly No. 2099 Fourth-Degree K.C. member. He volunteered four years at Saint Francis Medical Center and 14 years at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

Loving survivors include two children, Gilbert P. "Gil" Clements of Anna, Illinois, and Patrice "Trish" Clements of St. Louis; and his second soul mate, Alice Isaac of Jackson.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings, Elmer, Edward, Norbert, Sylvester and Ralph Clements and Hilda Zoellner, Anna Finger and Hattie Estes.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by the Rosary.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Deacon Al Stoverink officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with full military honors.

The family suggests contributions to Crown Hospice.
