Gertrude Frieda Schwartz, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Jan. 5, 1996, in the Fountainbleau Lodge.
She was born Dec. 3, 1909, in Cape Girardeau County, the daughter of Robert G. and Frieda Koch Pierce. On Sept. 13, 1930, in Cairo, Ill., she married George C. Schwartz, who died Oct. 23, 1960.
Schwartz was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and dietitian and supervisor of St. Mary's Grade School cafeteria from 1949-1954, then a dietitian and supervisor of the Cape Catholic High cafeteria. She was a charter member of the Kage Home Extension Club, a 4-H Club leader for seven years and charter member of the 4-H Club Camp Board of Directors, charter president of St. Paul's Guild of St. Mary's Church and a charter member of the American Cancer Society in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include a son, Michael Schwartz of Cape Girardeau; four daughters, Phyllis Seabaugh of Jackson, Pat Amrhein of Scott City, Judy Jones of Manchester and Marilyn Alderink of Grand Prairie, Texas; 25 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers, two sisters and a great-granddaughter.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Sunday.
The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, with Monsignor Richard Rolwing and the Rev. Roger Levelle officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
