CHARLESTON -- Gertrude Asel Bird, 96, formerly of Charleston, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1993, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center. She was born Jan. 1, 1897, at Logansport, Ind., daughter of George Gotlieb and Louise Caroline Kruse Asel. She married Donnell Bird, Sept. 29, 1920. He died April 18, 1986...

CHARLESTON -- Gertrude Asel Bird, 96, formerly of Charleston, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1993, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.

She was born Jan. 1, 1897, at Logansport, Ind., daughter of George Gotlieb and Louise Caroline Kruse Asel.

She married Donnell Bird, Sept. 29, 1920. He died April 18, 1986.

Bird lived in Charleston most of her life, where she was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as a Worthy Matron, and was a past member of the Extension Club and the Senior Study Club.

Survivors include a son, Bill Bird of Laguna Beach, Calif.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Private graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Charleston, with the Rev. Richard Combs officiating.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the McMikle Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, with the Rev. Richard Combs officiating.
