GERRIE PALMER

COBDEN, Ill. -- Gerrie Palmer, 63, of Cobden, formerly of Dongola, Ill., died Wednesday, April 16, 1997, at her home.

She was born Sept. 14, 1933, in Tunnel Hill, Ill., daughter of Allen and Katherine Brooks Schierbaum. She married William Henry Riggs. He preceded her in death. She later married Franklin Delano Palmer. He also preceded her in death.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cairo, Ill., and was a retired mental health technician III at Choate Center, having retired in 1993.

Survivors include her mother of Joppa; two sons, Gary Riggs of Gorham and Keith Palmer of Cobden; three daughters, Linda Riggs Ryan of Dongola, Mickie Riggs Grear and Melissa Palmer of Cobden; three brothers, Kenneth Schierbaum of Ratcliff, Ky., Bennie Schierbaum of Bluford, Ill., and William Schierbaum of Metropolis, Ill.; two sisters, Bonnie Kohler of Mill Creek, Ill., and Dorothy Jones of Grand Chain, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son and her father.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola.

Funeral service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Jay Franklin officiating.

Interment will be in the American Legion Cemetery.
