Geraldine H. "Gerry" Black of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Jan. 29, 1993, at Ratliff Nursing Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was the daughter of Gilbert and Statia Zimmerman Wyatt, and in June 1940, she married Donald D. Black, who preceded her in death Oct. 18, 1955.
She and her husband owned and operated the Black Insurance Agency in Cape Girardeau for many years. She taught English and music for many years in Southeast Missouri, including at Sikeston and Scott County Central school districts. She was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, the University of Missouri at Columbia, and from Writers School in Lexington, Ky. She also was a charter member of the Quest Club and a member of the P.E.O. chapter B.I.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Faust of Florissant, two grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Saturday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. A private graveside service will be held today at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
