PATTON, Mo. -- Lena Geraldine Cook, 95, of Patton passed away Monday, Jan. 17, 2022, at her home.
She was born March 20, 1926, and was the loving daughter of Carl and Tera Lincoln Smith. Gene H. Cook and Geraldine Smith Cook were united in marriage on April 29, 1950, in Arkansas, and he passed away June 29, 1986.
After graduating from Patton High School in 1944, Geraldine started teaching in a one-room schoolhouse while attending Southeast Missouri State Teachers College. She taught school for 30 years before starting a new career working in a long-term care facility in Perryville, Missouri, and ending her working days as a nutrition center coordinator in Marble Hill, Missouri. After a brief retirement, she worked side by side with her daughter, Gina, for 20 years at the Andrew Jackson Bridal Co.
Geraldine was a member of the Patton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her children, Guy Cook, Mitzi Cook, Greg Cook and Gina Jansen; three grandsons, Andrew, Jason and Justin; sister, Germaine Mungle; brother, Robert Smith; brother and sister in-law, Gus and Marilyn Cook; brother-in-law, Leroy Mungle; sister-in-law, Ronda Park; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, G.H. Cook; parents, Carl and Tera Smith; two sisters, Mary Josephine McCutcheon and Tera Lou Mungle; brother, Carl J. Smith; and son-in-law, Leroy Jansen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Patton Cemetery Fund, 10931 BCR 874, Patton, MO 63662.
A private service will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Liley Funeral Home in Patton with the Rev. David Coon officiating. Interment will take place in the Patton Cemetery in Patton next to her beloved husband.
