Gerald Summers

Gerald Wayne Summers, 64, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at his home.

He was born Jan. 12, 1945, in Cape Girardeau, son of Herbert and Irene Randol Summers. He and Sondra Reed were married Feb. 18, 1978.

Summers graduated from College High School in 1963. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. After returning to Cape Girardeau he worked as a licensed plumber and pipefitter, retiring in 1999 due to health conditions.

Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Christopher and Michael Gockel of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Paul, Don and Bob Summers, all of Gordonville; three sisters, Mary Jane Etherton of Columbia, Ill., Nadine Marchetto of St. Louis, Janet Summers of Cape Girardeau; and six stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

He donated his body to the Genesis Donor Program for Medical Education and Research Institute.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
