Gerald Gene Boren, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at the Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Sept. 25, 1926, in Cape Girardeau to Ewin and Edna Ruth Suedekum Boren.
He married the love of his life and high-school sweetheart, Maxine Busch, on Dec. 27, 1947, at Cape Girardeau.
After graduating high school, Gerald worked for Suedekum Hardware several years before entering the U.S. Army, where he was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and later in Syracuse, New York.
After returning from serving his country, he and Maxine were married and lived in Detroit for several years befor moving back to Cape Girardeau for the rest of their lives together.
Gerald worked for Burton Gerhardt for several years before being employed by the U.S. Postal Service until retirement from there in 1985.
He was a faithful member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church before health issues became a problem and he was unable to attend.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine of Cape Girardeau; a son, Steven (Beverly) Boren of Cape Girardeau; a daughter-in-law, Vickie Boren of St. Louis; a sister, Patsy Boren of Aurora, Illinois; and 10 grandchildren, Stephanie Wessell of Jackson, Courtney Landgraf of Cape Girardeau, Jeremy Boren of St. Louis, Jeff Boren of St. Louis, Chase Wessell of Jackson, Aidan Wessell of Jackson, Ava Wessell of Jackson, Mason Landgraf of Cape Girardeau, Kellan Landgraf of Cape Girardeau and Piper Landgraf of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ewin and Edna Boren; a son, Nick Boren; and a brother, Ivan Boren.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating.
Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Missouri Veterans Home or the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.
