AUBREY, Texas -- Georgie Gay Shirley, 88, of Aubrey died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Denton Regional Medical Center in Denton, Texas. She was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Ada, Okla., to John Harvey and Mary Jane "Molly" Gay. She moved to California and married Kenneth Merriman in 1950. They divorced in 1964, and he preceded her in death in 1982. In 1978 she married Richard L. Shirley. He preceded her in death in 1995...

AUBREY, Texas -- Georgie Gay Shirley, 88, of Aubrey died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Denton Regional Medical Center in Denton, Texas.

She was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Ada, Okla., to John Harvey and Mary Jane "Molly" Gay. She moved to California and married Kenneth Merriman in 1950. They divorced in 1964, and he preceded her in death in 1982. In 1978 she married Richard L. Shirley. He preceded her in death in 1995.

Georgie moved to Aubrey in 2004 and resided with her daughter and son-in-law until her death. She was a member of Sherman Drive Church of Christ where she had many friends. She enjoyed volunteering at her church, watching old movies, working puzzles and visits with family, friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters, Janet Kay and husband Dean Wilson of Aubrey, Phyllis Jean Lawrence of Grove, Okla., and Diana Gay and husband Gerald Campbell of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren, Christi Wilson-Fager and husband Terry, Lisa Pellham, Brenda Marie Quiring and husband Brandon, Lindsey Hope Lambert and husband Mark, Christopher Lawrence and wife Alisha and Keri Hurt and husband Derek; 17 great-grandchildren; four nieces; and two nephews.

Her parents, siblings, two granddaughters and a nephew preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at DeBerry Funeral Chapel in Denton.
