George W. Smith Jr., 50, 1024 S. Sprigg, died Sunday, July 12, 1992, at St. Francis Medical Center. He was born June 1, 1942, in New Madrid County, son of George and Ophelia Moses Smith. He and Shirley Clark were married in 1960. Survivors include his wife; five sons, George Smith III, Clarence, Tony, Lattie and Arthur Smith; five daughters, Martha Clark, Vanessa Stewart, Glynis Bonner, Kathryne and Alysia Smith, all of Cape Girardeau; his father of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Eva Smith of Cape Girardeau, Mae Stokes of Chicago, Mildred Coleman of Indianapolis, Ind.; a brother, Clarence Smith of Chicago; 14 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.. ...

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Johnny Thomas will officiate, with burial in Fairmount Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time.

Sparks Funeral Home at Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
