JONESBORO, Ill. -- George William Vernon Sr., 80, of Jonesboro died Monday, March 7, 2005, at Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.
He was born Nov. 1, 1924, in Crystal City, Mo., son of Floyd Conrad and Pearl Irene Sample Vernon. He and Dorothy Laverne Swan were married Nov. 6, 1948, at Pocahontas, Mo.
Vernon was owner and operator of Vernon Furniture in Anna. He was a member of American Legion, Chamber of Commerce, Anna-Jonesboro Rotary Club and Mount Moriah Lutheran Church.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife; a son, George "Bill" Vernon Jr. of Anna; two daughters, Mary Beth Smith of Grand Blanc, Mich., Candace Linton of Anna; and six grandchildren.
Friends may call at Hileman Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Moriah Church, with the Rev. Dr. Rick Hertenstein officiating. Burial will be in Anna City Cemetery, with military rites by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 of Anna.
