KARNAK, Ill., -- George Verner Hicks, 85, of Karnak died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Metropolis.

He was born Dec. 26, 1913, in Sherman, the son of the Rev. Acton and Minnie Tate Hicks.

He married Ethel Bond Hicks. She survives.

He was a member of the Karnak United Methodist Church. He worked at the Karnak Post Office for 33 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the southern Philippines, Luzon and New Guinea.

Other survivors include a daughter, Sharon Wilson of Karnak; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a sister, a brother and a granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Karnak United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joey Dunning officiating.

Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery at Belknap with graveside military rites by the VFW in Vienna.
