CHARLESTON -- George Duncan Staples, 84, of Miner Nursing Center at Miner died Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 12, 1913, at Wyatt, son of George D. and Martha Jane Griggs Staples Sr. He and Golda Opal Staples were married Dec. 22, 1931. She died Oct. 29, 1991.
Staples was a self-employed commercial developer, retiring in 1992. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, George Staples of Naperville, Ill.; a daughter, Martha Hill of St. Louis; a brother, Sidney Staples of Charleston; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, and a sister.
Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gerald Collier officiating. Burial will be in Smith-Griggs Cemetery near Wyatt.
