George D. Spence, 88, of Scott City died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at home.
He was born April 29, 1919, at Rutherford, Tenn., son of George W. and Effie Glissom Spence. He and Margaret Mary Godfrey were married Aug. 21, 1944, at Wellingborough, England.
Spence was a mechanic. He retired in 1981 after 36 years at Ford Groves in Cape Girardeau. He was a U.S. Army sergeant, serving during World War II. Spence was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Benton, Mo., and the VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Danny Spence of Bertrand, Mo.; a daughter, Peggy Laminack of Essex, Mo.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral chapel. The Revs. Dale Huff and Dennis Lowe will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Graveside military rites will be performed by the Military Honors Program.
